What is urethral stricture?
A urethral stricture is a narrowing of the urine passage (urethra) due to scarring. This can reduce urine flow and may lead to symptoms such as:
- Weak or slow urine stream
- Straining to pass urine
- Feeling of incomplete emptying
- Frequent urination or urgency
- Recurrent urinary infections
- Urinary retention in severe cases
What is the HAUS Score?
The HAUS Score is a AI based tool that will help us understand how likely a urethral stricture may recur and how closely a patient may need follow-up. It combines multiple factors instead of relying on only one parameter.
Why an AI-based HAUS Score tool?
Uroflowmetry (urine flow test) is commonly used to assess urine stream and to check for urethral stricture. Traditional interpretation of success of interventional procedures for urethral stricture management often focuses mainly on the peak flow rate (Qmax). However, Qmax alone may not reflect the full picture.
To improve accuracy and clinical usefulness, an AI-assisted analytical framework is being developed. This AI model can:
- Analyze the complete flow–time curve (not just Qmax
- Assess features such as:
• Speed of flow rise and fall (acceleration/deceleration)
• Curve shape and symmetry
• Plateau duration
• Voiding efficiency
• Variation across repeated tests - Integrate additional medical factors such as:
• Past urethral procedures/interventions
• Relevant comorbidities
• Inflammatory markers like NLR (Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio) and PLR (Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio) - Support transparency by highlighting which variables most influence risk, so clinicians can interpret results more clearly.
Expected Outcome
This AI-assisted HAUS Score framework is intended to act as a clinical decision-support tool to help:
- Identify patients who may be at higher risk of recurrence
- Guide individualized treatment selection and follow-up planning
