Hospitals will hereafter be called “Centers of Regeneration” was the key statement by Dr KM Cherian during the inauguration of NCRM in 2005 and the same he reiterated in 2015 during the 10th anniversary of NCRM, the first Indo-Japan collaborative center for Regenerative Medicine as the team had successfully completed several translational studies in 2015, which have paved way to BEES-HAUS, EELS-TALC and CESBANK. The seeds of were sowed in 1999~2000 when Dr Shimpei Yoshii visited India for an academic and clinical interaction with the team of Dr KM Cherian. The discussions those days were around alternate remedies to illnesses managed by complex cardiac surgical procedures by cell therapies and gene therapies. The NCRM team was fortunate to have had their association and hence such priceless inputs from those brilliant minds leading to worthy contributions in regenerative medicine mentioned above. To honor their contribution, we have named this initiative that will take over the translational research in other fields of medical specialties which started with CESBANK in ophthalmology, EELS-TALC in Orthopedics and BEES-HAUS in Urology.
